Year 2 is where your child builds the number sense that every later maths topic depends on. Our structured program makes numbers feel natural through hands-on learning, visual aids and everyday examples, like Australian coins.
Key Topics Covered:
Numbers to 1000, addition and subtraction strategies, equal groups, halves and quarters, 2D shapes, simple data and telling the time.
Parent Tip:
At this age, confidence matters more than speed. Try counting coins from the piggy bank together. We make sure each concept clicks before moving on.

Term 1
| No. | Topic | What We Cover |
|---|---|---|
| 01 | Place Value Foundations to 1000 | Read, write and show numbers to 1000 using blocks, place value charts and number lines. Practise telling 303 from 330. |
| 02 | Ordering Numbers on Number Lines | Place and order numbers to at least 1000 on open number lines. Solve missing number puzzles and compare bigger and smaller numbers. |
| 03 | Partitioning and Regrouping | Break two- and three-digit numbers into hundreds, tens and ones in different ways. Explore what a zero digit does, as in 407. |
| 04 | Number Patterns That Grow and Shrink | Spot, describe and continue patterns that go up or down by the same amount, such as 5, 10, 15, and find the missing numbers. |
| 05 | Addition Facts to 20 | Build quick recall of addition facts to 20 using ten frames, doubles and making ten. Short daily practice keeps facts fresh. |
| 06 | Subtraction Facts to 20 | Use addition facts to work out matching subtraction facts. Link fact families such as 8 + 7 = 15 and 15 - 7 = 8. |
| 07 | Adding Two-Digit Numbers | Add one- and two-digit numbers using partitioning, jumps on number lines and place value blocks. |
| 08 | Subtracting Two-Digit Numbers | Subtract using counting back, number lines and regrouping tens and ones. Check each answer by adding. |
| 09 | Number Sentences and Part-Part-Whole | Show problems as number sentences and use part-part-whole diagrams to decide whether to add or subtract. |
| 10 | Term 1 Revision | Revise place value, number patterns, addition and subtraction. A term mock test and parent report follow. |
